Inflammation of the Middle Ear
Posted by Ear Infections - 07/01/09 at 06:01 pmOtitis media is the type of ear infection, which caused by inflammation in the middle ear. Otitis media is of two types one is acute otitis media and another one is chronic otitis media. Acute otitis media is more severe than the chronic otitis media.

Chronic otitis media is the early stage of the disease and it can be diagnosed by the early symptoms. Acute otitis media leads to heavy damage in the internal and middle ear. Pus is formed in the middle ear, which causes severe annoyance and damage of the eardrum. Severe illness results in high fever and eruption of eardrum and the infective fluid oozes from the middle ear, which gives so much pain to the children’s. The hole in the eardrum heals quickly in the medical treatment.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) have set certain standard and recommended treatments depending upon the age , symptoms and risk assessment of the children or patient suggest that antibiotics can be given to children under two years if there is severe illness for curing acute otitis media .Amoxicillin is often prescribed for ten days .10percent children will not respond to this drug so antibiotic have to be changed .Nearly 40% children have some fluids in the middle ear which can be easily treated before that getting into acute form. Topical antibiotic drops may be used for chronic otitis media and scar present in the ear ossicles should be removed.
